Dragon boating is a held as part of the celebration of the Chinese festive season Duan Wu Jie, where the merits of the scholar Qu Yuan are celebrated.
A boat is decorated with a dragon head and tail at the end to symbolize the Dragon, which is believed to be the rulers of rivers & seas. The rhythmic beating of the drum is distinctive of the sport as the drum symbolizes the “heartbeat” of the dragon boat and synchronizes the strokes of the rowers. Dragon Boating emphasises team-work and the never-say-die spirit. Be prepared to enjoy a fabulous work out together and the thrill of cutting through the waves as you row as one uniformed body.
